Beeswax Finish - (For Internal Use Only)

The beeswax finish is the most authentic finish for steel. When our highly skilled blacksmiths have finished forging each product the colours left in the steel range from blue to deep red ochre. To preserve these beautiful colours and the texture from the hammer and anvil, we apply pure beeswax. This gives a subtle, matt richness to the metal and offers excellent protection when products are fitted internally and properly maintained.

Black Finish - (For Internal or External Use)

Our satin Black Finish is baked in a high-temperature oven giving it an attractive, durable and corrosion-resistant finish which is low maintenance and can be used internally or externally. It is resistant to moisture and can be used in bathrooms and damp conditions. We recommend that this finish is wiped with a lightly oiled cloth from time-to-time which will remove harmful deposits and maintain its original condition.

Black Antique Finish - (For Internal or External Use)

The Antique Black finish is more textured than the satin black, as result of the cast manufacturing process. Like our satin black finish this antique black finish is baked in a high temperature oven giving it a durable and corrosion resistant finish which is low maintenance. We recommend that this finish is wiped with a lightly oiled cloth from time-to- time which will remove harmful deposits and maintain its original condition.

Pewter Patina Finish * - (For Internal or External Use)

It has excellent anti-corrosion properties but we recommend that this finish is wiped with a lightly oiled cloth from time-to-time which will remove harmful deposits and maintain its original condition.

Bronze Finish (Steel Base Material) - (For Internal or External Use)

Mild steel coated with a permanent bronze finish which is weatherproof and will maintain it’s rich glossy finish for years to come. This finish is elegant and beautifully highlights the rustic and distinctive qualities of the hand forging process. It has excellent anti-corrosion properties but we recommend that this finish is wiped with a lightly oiled cloth from time-to-time which will remove harmful deposits and maintain its original condition.

Aged Bronze Finish - (For Internal or External Use)

Our Solid Bronze products are manufactured using traditional methods, and contain a very high percentage of copper. The products have a matt oil rubbed finish which aids protection. This finish is un-laquered and can initially look very dark. However, Aged Bronze is a living finish that will gradually oxidise over time, achieving a warm patina and a depth to the product that simulates historical quality (see page 64). Lightening the finish can be accelerated effortlessly, by hand polishing with a heavy dry cloth.

Polished Brass Finish - (For Internal or External Use)

All of our Polished Brass products are manufactured to the highest standards and come un-lacquered, to retain the original finish. Regular polishing with a good quality metal polish is essential. However, if the intention is to allow the surface to age through oxidisation, no attention needs to be given. Over time the brass will acquire a darker and more aged patina.

Antique Brass Finish - (For Internal or External Use)

This finish has been treated to speed up the natural tarnishing process which produces the antique feel of the product. It is burnished making it smooth in appearance and is used as an alternative finish where a highly polished surface is not desired. The finish is un-lacquered, will tarnish naturally causing the aged patina to darken with time. A semi gloss finish can be achieved by using Brasso.

Aged Brass Finish - (For Internal or External Use)

To achieve the Aged Brass Finish we accelerate the ageing process of the un-lacquered brass then re-polish. The result is a beautiful finish which highlights any dark detail on the product. To retain the original finish, regular polishing with a good quality metal polish is essential. However, if the intention is to allow the surface to age through oxidisation, no attention needs to be given. Over time the brass will acquire a darker and more aged patina.

Iron Finish - (For Internal or External Use)

This product is made from Iron & exhibits the natural beauty and texture of the metal. It is cast and dressed giving a tactile finish. Warnings: The chemicals in wet plaster and wet paint will rust our products. Only fit your new ironmongery when you have made sure that all new plaster is fully cured and paint has dried. Also, we do not recommend using our products in coastal areas as the salt content in the air will rust all finishes. Only 316 marine grade stainless steel will not rust in this sort of environment and therefore our products cannot be guaranteed.

Warnings: All of our product finishes which are marked for ‘external use’ have been designed to withstand many adverse weather conditions, but even with these tough finishes it is still a necessity to maintain the finish. Regular wiping with a slightly oiled cloth is highly recommended as harmful deposits can & will stick to the surface which will eventually break it down. A little time & effort during the life of your item will prolong and maintain your genuine ‘From The Anvil’ furniture long into the future.
